Boards and Committees
All of the Boards and Committees below consist of
residents of the City of Tarpon Springs. Each
member is appointed by the Board of Commissioners
during a Regular or Special Session of the Board.
No Member can be an elected official of the City.
Application for
Service on a City Committee or Board
Board of Adjustment and Appeals
This Board reviews zoning variances, i.e. setbacks of buildings
according to code, parking and boundaries. It is a decision-making Board
that works with the Planning Department.
Staff Liaison: Planning Department Terms: Three Years Meeting
Date/Time—Third Wednesday of the Month at 7pm
Charter Revision Committee
This Committee is appointed every five (5) years to review the City’s
governing laws (Charter) and recommends changes to the Charter to the
Board of Commissioners. These changes are then voted on by the
registered voters of Tarpon Springs.
Staff Liaison: City Clerk & Collector
Civil Service Board
This Board is formed to conduct fair hearings for appeals by non-exempt
permanent employees. It hears cases concerning terminations,
suspensions, or demotions and reassignments only resulting in reduction
of salary. Board members are called upon to observe examinations to
ensure they are conducted fairly and impartially, so as to secure the
best qualified personnel for the City.
Staff Liaison: Human Resource Director or Designee Terms—Two Years/Limit
of two consecutive terms Meeting Date/Time—As needed
Code Enforcement Board (Quasi-Judicial)
This Board conducts hearings relating to the enforcement of codes
and ordinances in the City where a pending or repeated violation
continues to exist, including but not limited to public nuisance,
occupational licenses, fire/building codes, zoning, and sign code.br />
Staff Liaison: Police Department Terms—Three Years/Limited two
consecutive terms Meeting Date/Time—Second Thursday of the Month at 2 pm
Housing Authority Board
The purpose of a public housing authority is to provide decent, safe,
and sanitary dwellings at low rents for persons of low and moderate
income. This Board does not have direct contact with the City as the
others do. It is Federal Funds that they handle and they work with the
Executive Director of the Housing Authority office.
Staff Liaison: City Manager or Designee Meeting Date/Time—Last Thursday
of Month
Heritage Preservation Board
This Board conducts studies as directed by the Board of Commissioners,
and identifies historically, architecturally, and archaeologically,
significant properties and structures, that exemplify the cultural,
social, economic, political or architectural history of the nation,
state, or city. The Board also recommends designation of sites and/or
guidelines for alterations to promote public awareness. The Board makes
nominations for the National Register of Historic places and also
establishes an awards and marker program.
Staff Liaison: Planning Department Terms: Four Year Terms—Limited two
consecutive Meeting Date/Time— First Monday of the Month at 6:30 pm
Library Board of Trustees
A Library Board members would have an interest in the Library, in the
community, and in the relationship of the library to the community. The
Board establishes policy and plans creatively to contribute to the
progress of the Library.
Staff Liaison: Library Director or Designee Terms: Three Year—Limited
two consecutive terms Meeting Date/Time— Fourth Wednesday of Month at
3:30 pm
Planning and Zoning Board (Quasi-Judicial)
This is an advisory board to the Commission to review site plans for new
construction, residential and commercial, beer, wine, liquor,
convalescent care facilities, rezoning and annexation requests.
Staff Liaison: Planning Department
Terms: Three Years
Meeting Date/Time: Third Wednesday of the Month at 7:00 p.m.
Quasi-Judicial:
Reaching a judgment call decision by applying standards set forth in
statutes or ordinances that already exist to specific facts established
by competent substantial evidence.
Public Art Committee
This is an advisory board to the Commission regarding the adoption of
public art guidelines, locations, installation and the like in
accordance with the City's Public Art Ordinance adopted pursuant to
Ordinance 2007-23.
Terms: Three Years
