The City Clerk is one of the oldest professions dating back to pre-biblical times, is the position of City Clerk! The term Clerk became synonymous with scholars because Clerks were among the few people in their community who could read and write. At the opening of a meeting, one of the Clerk’s duties was to read a curse upon anyone who should seek to deceive the people. The Clerk tied the past with the present by keeping the records of what happened. In Ancient Greece, they hanged people caught destroying antiquities thought to be records.
